Andrew Koenig (actor) who had been missing for nearly two weeks, was discovered in a Vancouver park Thursday as reported. “He committed suicide” his father said. The park was known to be one of the actor’s favorite spots when he lived in the city in the early ’90s.

The actor was born in August 17, 1968 and was 41 at the time he passed away. Koenig traveled to Myanmar/Burma in July 2007 and visited Burmese refugee camps in Thailand with his father as part of the U.S. Campaign for Burma. (ref: wiki)

Viva Hein: Myanmar singer performs 20 shows per month

February 26th, 2010 by Meehan No comments »

Myanmar traditional song singer Viva Hein became so popular through her album “Byo-hit-than” especially in upper Myanmar. In Yangon, she is renowned for her copy version of Tokyo Drift. You might wonder why a traditional song singer would sing that kind of song.

Well, maybe that’s what makes her popular enough to perform 20 shows a month. And her dancing skill, that’s another reason for her popularity. She said she learnt dance from J-Lo, Britney and Shakira. (By watching their music videos of course.)

Now, her second album is in process to release. So let’s wait and see if that album could make her perform 30 shows a month.

Was year 2008 the year of Nyi Nyi Htun Lwin?

Myanmar director Nyi Nyi Htun Lwin

Myanmar director Nyi Nyi Htun Lwin

As we all know recently in Myanmar, 7 Academy awards were given for the year 2008. Surprisingly, out of 7 awards, 4 awards are connected with director Nyi Nyi Htun Lwin.
Because Khant Sithu (Best leading actor), Khin Moh Moh Aye (Best supporting actress) and Myet Chel Film Production Company (Best film) were awarded for the film directed “A-Myar-Ne`-Ma-Thet-Sine-Thaw-Thu”.

And Nyi Nyi Htun Lwin, himself, was awarded as Best director for that film too. So, in a way, we can say that the films he directed won 4 Academy awards.
(4 awards!! That’s even more than 50% of the total count.) It is too rare a case in Myanmar Academy awarding history as I remember.

So let us all congratulate him. And tell me what your opinion is_ “Was year 2008 the year of Nyi Nyi Htun Lwin?”

Traditional song singer Pan Ei Phyu: She Sings, She Produces, She Sells!

February 11th, 2010 by Meehan No comments »

You might not know Pan Ei Phyu who is pretty and skillful singer, actress and music producer if you are not a traditional music crazy but she’s the sweetheart of Myanmar traditional music lovers and.

And we obtained that she’s also good at doing business like to promote her own VCD. She said “I bring the VCDs of my album whenever I go on a tour and sell them before the show starts. And while I’m singing my colleagues sell the VCDs at the backstage.”

The VCD of her album “ Linkar-Dipa-Ashin-Thu-Lo-Lu” was released on last December 4, 2009 and it reaches almost everywhere in Upper Myanmar within 2months. Impressive right? That’s why we said_ “She sings, she produces and she sells!”
(Moral of the post:If you wanna be a successful singer, you’d better learn how to sell VCDs of your album. :)

Myanmar academy awards and Khant Sithu as predicted

February 6th, 2010 by KD Bang No comments »

We believe most of our visitors known already about the recent winners of Myanmar academy awards which was held in Nay Pyi Daw last night (Myanmar time) and Khant Sithu was awarded as “Best Lead Actor” in movie of “A Myar Nint Ma Thet Saing Thaw Thu” as predicted before in our post.

The actor was seen in the movie as mentally retarded person and he did portray his character brilliantly. We believe many of Myanmar fans are satisfied with the result though we don’t hear any feedback so far.
